I just installed snow leopard on my mac and that was successful. i went to do a software update afterwards (hoping to move up to 10.6.8) and it went through, but when the computer had to restart, it would just shut down, and reboot to the purple-ey space-ey background image....and just stay there... After the mojave update, my 27inch mac did not start and was stuck on apple. nothing helped so from recovery mode i have reinstalled and worked fine. until the next morning when the same situation repeated.. Os x updates help your mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. for most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do. after restarting, the related software is in your trash..

Shut down, wait a few seconds, then restart your mac. this update won't include the latest version of the software so after performing the update, check software update and apply the latest. Page 1 of 2 - macbook pro (mac os x) 'restart' doesn't work so can't get software updates - posted in mac os: for a few months my macbook pro hasnt restarted when i am trying to get software updates.. I ran software update to install the update to safari (4.0.5), and after it installed, it went into the portion where it needs to restart the computer. where it installs after the os shuts down, the update failed, and the computer restarted..
